Gladfield’s Black Forest Rye malt is double steeped, malted, fermented and roasted, with a colour of 200 EBC and has been designed specifically for a strong beer with rich, sweet Christmas cake flavours. Coming out of a chance conversation with Gladfield’s Hayden Lockie, we were challenged to showcase this malt in a beer suitable for Melbourne’s changeable spring weather. The rich rye malt flavour is paired with fruit and spice notes from the Belgian Ardennes yeast strain and balanced with moderate bitterness for a suitably celebratory beverage.
