As is tradition at the annual Australian International Beer Awards, the breweries who win Champion Australian Brewery trophies collaborate to brew a beer for the awards ceremony the following this year.
In 2018, we won Champion Large Australian Brewery and so in April this year we paired up with Green Beacon (Champion Medium Australian Brewery), Black Hops Brewing (Champion Small Australian Brewery) and Philter (Australian Gypsy Brewer) to brew a very special beer.
The starting point for this brew was the achacha, or, achachairú. This exotic fruit is highly prized in its native Bolivia, and has been grown in Australia since 2003 at the Palm Creek Plantation in Giru, Queensland.
Tangy and effervescent, this fruit lends itself to a Gose-style beer, which was soured with Weyermann Sauermalz from Cryer Malt and complemented by the passionfruit aromas of HPA’s Galaxy hops.
This beer was brewed exclusively for the 2019 AIBA dinner but there are a few kegs leftover for some select venues. Keep an eye on our Beer Finder to find a tap near you or watch how we made this brew come to life.
