FAQ Goat

Do you open the brewery to public?

Absolutely. We’re open every Fri eve from 5pm. We have all our beers on tap (including one off crazy batches) and we make good pizzas too. Wed nights we also open from 5 and you can get a free tour at 6:30pm. We’re usually brewing Wed nights so it’s a great time to see, hear and smell new batches of Goat coming into the world. We’re at 80 North St, Richmond.

Do you sell drinks other than beer at the bar?

Yep we have some good Australian whites and reds and the excellent Two Step Apple Cider. Also have David Baker’s locally distilled specialty single malt whiskies and his gin and vodka. Soft drinks too.

How do you get the goat into the beer?

The truth is we don’t actually put goats in our beer.

Why don’t you brew the Surefoot Stout year round?

We like the idea of having special beers coming out in certain seasons of the year and the Surefoot really fits well with the colder winter months.

Is it the case that you still hand bottle your Goat

After filling more than 2 million bottles by hand we now have an automated bottling line. It has been a life changing addition to the brewery and we don’t want to hand cap another bottle, ever.

Where do babies come from?

Not sure.

Why don’t you have bands play at the brewery?

We’d love to but we have residents living close by and we have a condition on our planning permit that says we cannot host live music.

Did you start out as homebrewers?

Yes, it all started in Dave’s backyard in Elsternwick. We’ve still got somedetailed brewing journals highlighting the highs and lows of Dave’s early work. Some of his hits were the Salmon’s Runnin’ Stout, Leroy Brown Ale and the Black Dog Dark Brown.

Expose vos houblons! What?

“Show us your hops”

So why Mountain Goat?

A mountain goat’s a big hairy animal that’s never gonna fall over.

i was wondering if Mountain Goat Beer has merchandise? Like a T-shirt would
    be good to buy home!

I second that. A T-Shirt would be great.

  3. simon Says:

Yes merchandise would be excellent. Maybe patches. I could imagine
people sewing them onto their bags and hey presto what fantastic advertisement while they are walking and riding around town.

There’s merch available at the brewery. I have about 4 t-shirts (of various degrees of antiquity).
