IN RANDY TONIGHT: 1st & 3rd February, 2012.

Skipping Girl Summer Ale with Fresh Peaches & Mint 4.2% alc/vol, 22IBU

Randy (short for Randall Handle) is a device used to infuse hops (or sometimes fruit, spices and other things nice) into beer just before it’s poured into your glass. It’s about as late a flavour addition as you can get.

Named in honour of “Little Audrey” at the top of Burnley St, Skipping Girl is a fruity, tropical Summer Ale. 30% Wheat Malt, Pilsener Malt and exactly one truckload of Motueka and Nelson Sauvin hops (added to the conditioning tank) ring in the beginning of summer (at last). We promise.

Plus:

The Hoeff. Is Back. 5.3%alc/vol, 16BU

Dry, clean, fruity, and just a little bit German, The Hoeff is our Hefeweizen (South-German Cloudy Wheat Beer). A funky Yeast (serving up clove, banana and just a hint of bubblegum), all-German Hops, Australian Malted Barley and Wheat all add up to a sunny Sunday afternoon in Munich…

…on Wednesday and Friday in Richmond. Magic, huh?

Goldilocks Golden Ale with Galaxy Flowers. 4.9%, 24BU.

Goldilocks is a Golden Ale brewed with Pils, Crystal & Wheat malts. We used NZ Green Bullet and Styrian Goldings hops for bittering, dry hopped it with US Amarillo and Andy’d it with Tazzie Galaxy flowers. Whew!!!

Result = Light and zingy.

It’s another one for a Melbourne Summer day minus the hail.

India Pale Ale 6.0% alc/vol, 55 IBU

One where we get to show you our hops. We throw Cascades in the kettle, then dry hop during fermentation with a big whack of Galaxy and some more Cascade. Ale Malt, Malted Wheat and Crystal Malt balance the hoppy goodness.

Warning: Contains hops.

And of course Steam Ale & Hightail Ale.

The brewery is open open Wed & Fri Nights from 5pm. Pizza, wine & soft drink also available.

What’s uber exciting for us, tho’, is they’re bringing out Mikkeller Brewery’s Mikkel Borg Bjergsø from Denmark to talk thru his beer philosophies and gypsy brewing ways. If you haven’t heard of Mikkeller, look ‘em up now.

Even better yet, Mikkel’s gonna do a brew with us.

Even better than that, you can be a part of it.

Whoa.

You see, while the brew goes on we’re going to hold an exclusive 5-course dinner for 30 people, catered by pop-up specialists the 36 collective. These guys have experience working at Attica and Cutler & Co – no muckin’ around there.

Each of the courses will be matched with a Goat and Mikkeller beer, and both Mikkel and our own Chief Brewer Dave Bonighton will be there to rumble with you.

Tickets are $150, available from Dec 2nd thru Ticketmaster, and will go fast.

To check out other Festival events including the Liquid Lounge and Beer Breakfast go here.

Right. Just to clear up any confusion we may have caused. We’ve just decommissioned our old brewhouse (6 tanks that drive our brewing operations) and replaced it with a spanking new Canadian system. We’re not moving out, retiring or becoming winemakers. Just upgrading. The new gear spent 6 weeks on a ship and then had tradesmen crawling all over it for the past two weeks in here. The plastic wrap has just come off and you should see the smiles on our brewers’ faces! Drop in any Wed or Fri night when the bar’s open and take a look. And if you want to ask any questions about it, just grab one of us and we’ll talk your leg off.

Our latest Cross Breed is out.

We’ve called it Seedy Goat, and it’s a Coffee IPA. We’re a little excited about it.

It’s a collaboration with our mates at Seven Seeds Coffee Roasters, who brought the coffee expertise.

We’ve integrated coffee into the beer without taking the beeriness out (we still believe beeriness is an important characteristic of beer). What we’ve come up with is a big, hoppy IPA – with a twist of coffee.

It took many beer and coffee sampling sessions but finally we decided on the Nicaraguan ‘Finca El Limoncillo’ Pacamara Bean which displays guava, prune & paw paw flavours.

The coffee partially replaces hops in the bitterness, flavour and aroma of the beer. This is no tacked on flavour, but a complex fruity kick, all the way to the back of your palate.

You’ll find it at good, independent bottleshops, and you can get a draft version when we tap it at Goat Bar this Wednesday and Friday night. (Some of you early birds may have already tried it…)

We hope you dig it like we do…

Goats.
