When we were give the opportunity to get our hands on some hop hash, our brewers jumped at the chance, resulting in our new specialty release Hashtag IPA.
We were given two varieties to work with, both from Cosby Farm’s in Oregon: Belma and Idaho 7, two relatively new hop varieties. Belma has characteristics of grapefruit, melon and strawberry, while Idaho 7 brings in pine, tropical fruit and tealeaf aromas.
Both varieties of hop hash were added in the whirlpool and in dry-hopping, allowing the tropical flavours to really burst through. The fruitiness from the hops is complemented by mild malt sweetness, courtesy of Ale, Munich, Redback and Rye leading to a pleasantly dank and resinous finish.
